How I Work
My training is grounded in humanistic and person-centred principles.
This approach places a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client as central to the counselling process. With this, I believe that feeling genuinely heard, understood and accepted can facilitate the conditions for greater self-awareness, personal exploration and meaingful change.
Working relationally, I aim to offer a therapeutic space characterised by empathy, authenticity and respect. I recognise the importance of developing a therapeutic relationship in which you feel safe enough to explore your experiences openly, including thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to understand or share. I seek to meet each person with compassion and without judgement, recognising that every individual brings their own experiences, perspectives and understanding of the world.
My approach places an importance on developing self-awareness and exploring how past experinces, present circumstances and relationships may influence the way you understand yourself and relate to others. While our sessions will often focus on what you are experiencing in the present, we may also explore your past where this feels relevant to your personal understanding and current experience.
At the heart of my approach is the belief that you are the expert in your own experience. Rather than directing you towards particular answers or solutions, I work collaboratively with you through active listening, empathy and gentle curisosity, trusting in your inherent capacity to develop your own understanding.
Finally, I recognise that counselling is a unique process for each person, and there is no predetermined path or pace that it needs to follow. My hope is that our work together offers a space to simply be, to breathe, and to deepen your understanding and acceptance of self in a way that feels authentic to you.
